    Ashbox Café (in Greenpoint) … it’s between Ash and Box streets on Manhattan Avenue. A super cute lunch style Japanese café where everyone wears straw hats and inside it’s a very cozy, charming wooden vibe… lots of nice sandwiches, salads, onigiri, soups, etc. I used to come here all the time when I worked at Kickstarter (in Greenpoint).     Café Himalaya (in East Village) … not far from Souen. Really great Himalayan food. The avocado salad is super tasty and a little spicy. The soups are nice too, as are all the entreés

    Souen (in East Village) … it’s a macrobiotic Japanese restaurant. The “macro plate” is pretty boring but so healthy and filling!! It has steamed kale, carrot, squash, with beans and rice and a choice of dressing … carrot ginger or miso tahini. Lots of other great items on the menu. Everything here makes me feel so good. Also has a nice circular window!!

    13. Punjabi Deli

    Punjabi Deli (also in East Village!) … this is a very very cheap vegetarian Indian place that a lot of taxi drivers go to. You order a few things on rice and usually eat outside because it’s so tiny. $5 for a meal is pretty amazing :O

    Sushi Katsuei (210 7th Ave) … I’ve only gone here once, but it was some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. The omakase is very expensive but it seems like some of their normal entrees are within reach…

    Hibino (333 Henry Street) — Japanese restaurant that is somewhat fancy, specializes in tofu ($15–30 for meal, although they have a lunch special on weekdays for ~$10) … I think you need to make a reservation for dinner, but lunch is walk-in.
